Martha Stewart and Cotton

Martha Stewart and Cotton

While much of the US media is fetting Martha Stewart to be a grand heroine who has returned home, leaving behind ignominous prison walls, I have been reading some disturbing reports about cotton farmers committing suicide in Vidharba, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Where would Martha and her millions be if not for her pastel colored cotton sheets and towels and curtains and table clothes (much of it imported from India)?

I urge each of my readers to read the following 2 urls and understand the issues of cotton farming and who is getting rich how.

Please support organic farming of crops and this Shivratri, become Neelkants by sucking up the poison that we have allowed to flow into the earth and water in the name of pesticides.
